Psa 101:3 I will not set before my eyes anything that is base. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cleave to me.
This is another critical verse to memorize in the area of sexual purity. It raises an extremely high standard toward holiness. Take a few minutes and read it over 10-15 times. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to remember it.
Here is the whole Psa 101. As you read it, note the number of times the word “WILL” is used.
Ps 101:1-8 A Psalm of David. I will sing of loyalty and of justice; to thee, O LORD, I will sing. I will give heed to the way that is blameless. Oh when wilt thou come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; I will not set before my eyes anything that is base. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cleave to me. Perverseness of heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil. Him who slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. The man of haughty looks and arrogant heart I will not endure. I will look with favor on the faithful in the land that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the way that is blameless shall minister to me. No man who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no man who utters lies shall continue in my presence. Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked in the land, cutting off all the evildoers from the city of the LORD.
Oh to have a ‘will’ that is always bent, eager to do God’s will. Psa 40:7,8 says “Then I said, “Lo, I come; in the roll of the book it is written of me; I delight to do thy will, O my God; thy law is within my heart.”
Jesus’ will was always yielded to do the Father’s will. He emptied himself and became a servant. A servant doesn’t seek his own pleasure. He only seeks to please his master. Jesus was this kind of servant, a perfect servant. He so yielded himself that to seek to please Himself would have been contrary to everything He came to accomplish.
Our eyes are not our own. Neither are our minds or hands or body. We do not OWN our flesh. God has given us His spirit to live inside of us. He has made us in His image, with mind, will and emotions. He desires us to be so yielded to Him, that His indwelling Spirit would empower us to control our flesh. This is MORE THAN merely controlling our flesh, but to put to death that which is earthly in us. We are commanded in Col 3:5, “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you, fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire and covetous which is idolatry…” For us to obey this verse, ‘to put to death’, our WILLS have to be energized and activated. We have to have the ‘want to’ or energy to follow through with the actions.
In Psa 101, David shows us a picture of his character. His ‘WILL’ was fully activated to control his eyes. His ‘WILL’ was bent to fully obey God. With all his might, he ‘WILLED’ to obey God and to follow him.
I pray that your will would be wholly yielded to do God’s will. Please pray it for me also.

Bob,
Thanks for your continued encouragement. I’m on Spring break and have committed to working through the A pack with Nathaniel. He has 8 verses down and 4 to go.
