Psalms 119: 49, 50 Remember Thy Word to Thy servant in which Thou hast made me hope. This is my comfort in my affliction that Thy promise gives me life…
The Psalmist is asking God to remember… On the surface it seems disrespectful to ask God to remember anything. He is omniscient, outside of time and perfect in recall, memory and foreknowledge. The Psalmist is afflicted. He doesn’t say how he is afflicted or in what capacity, yet afflicted non-the-less. Paul was afflicted with a ‘messenger from Satan’. He suffered.
Others that I know are afflicted with addictions of some type. Some are afflicted with incurable medical conditions. Others are afflicted with unbearable work situations with bosses who are bi-polar, inconsistent, harsh or rude. Others are afflicted with family members who consistently do or act in ways that are hurtful, embarrassing or seemingly targeting our well-being. Some desperately WANT to get married and feel afflicted with a strong sex drive and no righteous outlet. Others are married and their wives/ husband refuse or are unable to meet their basic needs. Whatever the affliction, today’s verse applies.
Remember Thy Word to Thy servant in which Thou hast made me hope. God’s Word, and His promises give hope and life. Here are a few of the promises that give me hope.
Phil 1:6 He who began a good work in you WILL bring it to completion at the day of Christ…
Heb 13:5 I will never leave you or forsake you…
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will FORGIVE us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness
Lam 3:22,23 The steadfast love of the Lord NEVER ceases, His mercies NEVER come to an end, they are new every morning, GREAT IS THY faithfulness
Rom 8:28 We know that in all things God works for good with those who live Him, who are called according to His purposes…
Matt 7:7 Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it will be opened to you…
God wants fellowship with us. God is NOT like us. God loves us, listens to us and is committed to conforming us to the image of Jesus. Nothing can separate me from Him or His love. I am secure in my current position and my future standing with God. What gives you comfort and hope? Whatever verse or truth comes to mind, memorize it. Recite it out loud to yourself. Think about it and let it feed your soul.
