Psalms 119:58 I entreat Thy favor with all my heart, be gracious to me according to Thy promise…
I love this prayer. I want the favor of God. I want God to bless me and to be gracious to me and to make His face to shine upon me. (Psalms 67:1).
When God’s favor was upon Joseph, he prospered whether in Potiphar’s house, or in prison, or as the #2 man in all of Egypt.
I have prayed for and received God’s favor many, many times. Whenever I approach someone in authority over me, who has the power or position to grant me favor, I ask God to move his or her hearts to grant me my petition. Whenever I am in need of more grace, the power to obey God, I ask for both grace and for favor. As a missionary who lives ‘by faith’, whenever I approach someone to make our needs known, I ask God for favor. Whenever I as about to be chewed out or castigated for some offence, either deserved or undeserved, I cry out for favor.
Look at some of these verses from the Amplified Bible on the ‘favor of’ or ‘favor from’ God.
Psalms 84:11 For the Lord God is a Sun and Shield; the Lord bestows [present] grace and FAVOR and [future] glory (honor, splendor, and heavenly bliss)! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
Psalms 90:17And let the beauty and delightfulness and FAVOR of the Lord our God be upon us; confirm and establish the work of our hands–yes, the work of our hands, confirm and establish it.
Psalms 91:11Light is sown for the [uncompromisingly] righteous and strewn along their pathway, and joy for the upright in heart [the irrepressible joy which comes from consciousness of His FAVOR and protection].
Prov 3:32-34 32For the perverse are an abomination [extremely disgusting and detestable] to the Lord; but His confidential communion and secret counsel are with the [uncompromisingly] righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with Him). The curse of the Lord is in and on the house of the wicked, but He declares blessed (joyful and FAVORed with blessings) the home of the just and consistently righteous. Though He scoffs at the scoffers and scorns the scorners, yet He gives His undeserved FAVOR to the low [in rank], the humble, and the afflicted.
Entreat God’s favor today. Ask for His blessings on all that you do at work, at home, in your relationships with other. “In entreat Thy FAVOR with all my heart…”
