Satan 1 Peter 5:8,9 be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your brotherhood throughout the world.
Luke 4:13 “When the devil had finished every test, he departed from him until an a more opportune time.”
Again, take a minute and re-read these two passages. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour…. And he will find you when you least expect it. He is lurking in the bushes, observing and waiting for an opportune time to attack.
After the hundreds if not thousands of times that I have fallen, another common denominator can be found. I was always ALONE. I was never with a buddy when I fell to porn or sexual sin.
When you look at Scriptures, there is good reason for marriage. It is NOT GOOD FOR MAN TO BE ALONE… God never intended for us to be ‘lone rangers’. Over and again in Scriptures, the advantages of being with another brother or sister are pointed out.
Eccl 4:9,10 Two are better than one, for they have good return for their labor. If one falls, the other can lift him up. But woe be to the one who falls without another… a chord of three strands is not easily broken…
Prov 18:1 says, ‘he who separates himself seeks pretexts to break out against all sound judgment.’
Heb 3:13 Encourage one another every day as long as it is called today lest none of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
When Jesus sent his disciples out on evangelistic missions, he sent them out two by two. When we are alone, we are rather easy pickings for the evil one. When you are alone on travel or TDY or TAD, by definition you are more vulnerable to temptation than if you were with your wife or Christian roommates. Jesus was alone in the wilderness when He was tempted. David was home, away from his duty of being deployed at war when he was tempted by Bathsheba.
I pray that when you are alone, that internal alarm bells would sound in your head and that you would heighten your sense of watchfulness. I pray that when you report into a new command, that you would quickly identify yourself as a believer and actively seek out other Christians. I pray that you would not get into the habit of operating alone.
